RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is a family of web feed formats used to publish freuently updated works (blogs, news articles, etc.) The following video gives a brief description of RSS Feeds much more eloquently than I could in under 4 minutes.
As you can see from the video, RSS feeds are a way to manage our time while still keeping up with the news feeds or blogs we follow. There are many potential applications for training. I like to use it to help me keep up on training or insurance related news and articles.
As the video points out, you simply need a "reader" to take advantage of RSS technology. I've tried Bloglines and Google Reader. I prefer Google Reader simply because I already have a Google account and use other Google features like Calendar, Documents, and Gmail. Feel free to try them both and decide which fits best for you. With either one you'll need to create a free account. I'm posting a short tutorial on how to use Google Reader below.
This week: Sign up for an RSS Reader account from on of the links above. Subscribe to a few feeds that you feel would be useful in your role as a trainer or as an insurance professional. Take a few moments to reflect on how we might use RSS feeds not only to gather information for our own development, but also to get training information out to CRs and Supervisors.
